Don Crabb - Computer Help

Virtual macintosh? Check out the web!

Question:
OK we all know don that you love the Mac, So pal I'm gonna buy
one and see that your right. But before I do I would like
a quick crack at using a Mac.. where do I turn?

Answer:
Well, point your PC's web browser to http://www.poweron.com,
where you will get a "virtual" Macintosh experience courtesy of the page's
author and maintainer Jonathan Gleich, you will need Netscape
Navigator 2.0 or better to take full advantage of this page.

And remember, this is only a simulation using a real Mac is much better.

I'm afraid I'll have to step in and take over on this one.
One of our contributors insisted that I go and have a look
at this site, so reluctantly I pulled myself away from a
story I was working on and skipped over to The Virtual
Macintosh. As I worked my way through it's pages I
became more and more enthralled. This is an incredible
site! I was very impressed. Jonathan Gleich has put
together what I feel is one of the most entertaining,
enlightening, informative, and creative sites I have ever
had the pleasure of visiting. The one question I kept
asking myself during my Mac journey through his site
was, "Why didn't I think of this?". -

This is absolutely one of the best, most clever sites on the web.
The fact that it's all Mac puts the icing on the cake!
(Especially like the Microsoft dig. Touche!)

We give it our "Mondo Cool" rating!

I'll find a way to plug your site in the printed edition of
the magazine as well. You've got something very special here,
and I know our readers would enjoy it!

Again, my hats off to you on an excellent site with tons of Mac Attitude!

Best regards,

InfoWorld

I liked it!

It was pretty good - A nice mixture of humor and useful information. Nice work. Now, will it make it onto the InfoWorld Web Hotlist? I've placed it on a list of possible candidates (along with several hundred others) and it has a chance. Keep in mind I get dozens of suggestions each week.

I've gone to a lot of mac pages gathering info for my homepage.
But when I clicked on "Power-On" at the Virtual Mac.

I almost swallowed my cigarette.

That has to be the most clever "come in to my site" things ever.

The site is funny. and have nice touch not seen in many pages,

Cult of Mac

Your site looks _very_ cool

I mean it takes a lot of bandwidth with all its graphics. but then, who am I to complain: Cult is a _lot_ heavier and doesn't look half as good as your site.

Damn you; had I seen your site a few days later I would have been able to say the idea of using Mac/OS desktop on my Mac-support page was an idea not risen from your site... ;-)

Other Awards and Mentions!

The Virtual Macintosh is a clever and shamelessly

MacOS-centric site that models itself,

graphically, on the Macintosh environment.

The site uses GIF animations to mimic the Mac boot-up process

and some aspects of the Finder and Mac desktop.

Also features links to many MacOS-related sites.

PC users may wonder what its like to work on a Mac. Mac users will find this site very familiar. We found it exceptional. Wonderfully designed and easy to navigate this clever site is easily one of the best on the net today. For you PC users out there, be prepared for a little PC/Windows/Microsoft bashing. The Virtual Mac is a site that is hard to classify. It has some great links, but it is not a links page. It has fantastic graphics, but it is not devoted to art. Instead, it is designed to show off the Macintosh in it's full platinum colored glory. Navigating around the Virtual Mac is not at all different than navigating your own Mac. You can even Empty the Trash! It's simply one of the best and most unique sites on the web, and most worthy of your visit. jim adams, -- digitalApple "http://www.mindspring.com/~jta"
